A psychologist has a minimum of six years university training to provide empirically validated and proven therapy. They have to be a member of a registration board and continually develop their skills, monitored by that board.
A counselor does not have a registration board and is not held up to external performance standards. No Medicare rebates are available for a counselor’s services.
You do not need a referral to book counselling services with us if you are paying for the session yourself or if you are claiming through your private health fund.

All counselling services are treated as private and confidential. The information that is gathered during your sessions is only for the purposes of assessment, diagnosis and treatment. This helps us provide you with the best possible outcome. As set out by the APS Code of Ethics, limitations to this confidentiality apply if there is an immediate or specified risk of harm to an identifiable person’s safety, or if a client’s file is subpoenaed by a court of law.
